Senior Database Administrator

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to play a key role within a high-impact technical services team.

Responsibilities
The contractor role is for a Senior Database Administrator and will perform advanced database administration tasks for databases used by applications with complex data models, workflows, and reports. Assists the team in creating and maintaining logical and physical data models.
The successful candidate will work with Full-stack Java applications on client’s cloud platform (Azure/AWS) within an Agile (Scrum) environment. The role will involve migrating data from Oracle applications to SQL schemas and loading it into collections. Additionally, the candidate will optimize database performance during and after migration, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and implement monitoring solutions to track database health and performance metrics.
- Database tuning, indexing, customization, transformation, data migrations/conversions, installations, troubleshooting, upgrades, patching, user management, security of data at rest and in motion, disaster recovery, clustering for high availability and load balancing, data backup, purging and archiving
- Implementation of database policies, data replication and backup to secondary sites like disaster recovery environments, procedures for the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of the sensitive and business-critical databases
- Converting Oracle Stored Procedures and Functions to Azure SQL
- Creating and maintaining logical and physical data models, with a primary focus on Oracle and Azure Microsoft SQL
- Providing assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems
- Evaluating users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporating them into the existing shared data environment, and providing technical assistance
- Performing data modeling and prototyping, logical and physical data modeling, designing relational database models, and creating physical data models from logical data models
- Performing security recovery procedures, determining and implementing database search strategies and storage requirements
- Maintaining data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for use of data dictionary
- Monitoring database performance and recommending efficiency improvements
Qualifications

- 10 years of experience required
- 8 years of experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL (or similar) required
- 8 years of experience with Relational Database Administration (SQL Server or Oracle, for example) required
- 8 years of experience in database design, analysis, and performance tuning required
- 8 years of experience in database structures, data analysis, performance tuning required
- 8 years of experience designing enterprise applications and/or services required
- 8 years of experience creating technical and functional design documentation required
- 8 years of experience within software development Life Cycle using Agile methodology (Scrum, for example) required
- 8 years of experience with multi-tier system/application development (SOA, Microservices, 3-Tier applications, for example) required
- 6 years of experience with large volume databases, high availability, and disaster recovery infrastructure preferred
- 6 years of experience with Azure preferred
- 3 years of experience with Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Azure SQL preferred
- 3 years of experience in DevOps technology including CI/CD pipeline and build and deployment tools such as Git preferred
- 1 year of experience in Java/J2EE Enterprise Development preferred
- Azure certification is preferred
- DBA Associate certifications are preferred
