Senior Data Engineer - Digital Pathology (Hybrid)

About the role

This hybrid position, based within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, MN, involves developing and deploying data pipelines, integrations, and transformations to support analytics and machine learning applications as part of an assigned product team. The role requires maintaining an understanding of the organization's current solutions, coding languages, and tools, with regular application of independent judgment. The candidate will partner with product owners and Analytics and Machine Learning delivery teams to identify and retrieve data, conduct exploratory analysis, build and validate analytical models, and translate qualitative and quantitative assessments into actionable insights. This position is not eligible for sponsorship, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy data pipelines, integrations, and transformations using various open-source programming languages and vended software to meet design functionality for products and programs
  • Maintain an understanding of the organization's current solutions, coding languages, and tools
  • Apply independent judgment regularly
  • Provide consultative services to departments/divisions and leadership committees as needed
  • Partner with product owners and Analytics/Machine Learning delivery teams to identify and retrieve data
  • Conduct exploratory analysis, pipeline and transform data to identify and visualize trends
  • Build and validate analytical models
  • Translate qualitative and quantitative assessments into actionable insights

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, health science, or other analytical/quantitative field AND a minimum of five years of professional or research experience in data visualization, data engineering, or analytical modeling techniques
  • OR an Associate's degree in a relevant field AND a minimum of seven years of professional or research experience in data visualization, data engineering, or analytical modeling techniques
  • In-depth business or practice knowledge will also be considered

Required skills

  • Advanced experience in SQL
  • Strong experience in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or Java
  • Strong experience with API integration
  • Experience in hybrid data processing methods (batch and streaming) such as Apache Spark, Hive, Pig, or Kafka
  • Experience with big data, statistics, and machine learning
  • Ability to navigate Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and installing data systems as applied to the Department of Data & Analytics technology framework

Preferred skills

  • Knowledge of workflow scheduling (Apache Airflow, Google Composer)
  • Infrastructure as code (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • CI/CD (Jenkins, Github Actions)
  • Experience in DataOps/DevOps and agile methodologies
  • Experience with hybrid data virtualization such as Denodo
  • Working knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, SAS, ThoughtSpot, DASH, d3, React, Snowflake, SSIS, and Google Big Query
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification

Pay

$141,024.00 - $204,526.40 / year

Schedule

  • Full Time, 80 hours per pay period
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Hybrid position – must be located within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, MN for quarterly on-site expectations
  • Weekend schedule as needed
