About the Role

The Senior Data Center Electric Pricing Analyst position is an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of California energy policy at the innovative intersection of electric industry pricing strategy and technological growth. This leadership role involves managing complex proceedings, projects, and programs for designing and implementing pricing structures that promote electrification, decarbonization, and customer equity, including the prudent interconnection of data centers. The role entails advisory support to Administrative Law Judges, Commissioners, and other key decision-makers. The successful candidate will develop advanced rates that incentivize efficient grid utilization, clean energy development, and customer protections amid rapid technological innovation.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex long-term projects involving large interdisciplinary teams and the development of analytical work products under tight deadlines.
• Apply quantitative reasoning, spreadsheet, and modeling skills to analyze and interpret data, formulating conclusions and recommendations.
• Prepare written briefings, reports, recommendations, or other materials on technical subject matter based on analysis and research for various audiences, including decision-makers.
• Shape pricing structures to promote electrification, decarbonization, and customer equity, including data center interconnection.
• Provide advisory support to Administrative Law Judges, Commissioners, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

• Experience in public utilities and/or transportation in the areas of economics, finance, or policy (must be detailed in the STD 678 application form).
• California Driver’s License.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for PUBLIC UTILITIES REGULATORY ANALYST V. The following qualifications will be evaluated based on the Statement of Qualifications (SOQ):

• Ability to manage complex, long-term projects with interdisciplinary teams and deliver analytical work products under tight deadlines.
• Strong quantitative reasoning, spreadsheet, and modeling skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret data to formulate actionable conclusions and recommendations.
• Experience preparing written briefings, reports, or recommendations on technical subject matter, including the purpose, role, audience, and outcome of the work.

The SOQ must be no smaller than 11-point Arial font, single-spaced, and no more than two pages. Responses must be numbered and correspond to the questions listed in the posting. All information in the SOQ is subject to verification.

Pay

$9,631.00 - $12,054.00 per month. Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 temporarily reduces state employee pay in exchange for leave hours to address budget shortfalls. Salary ranges exclude this temporary reduction. New hires will be placed at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range, if applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position. Hybrid telework arrangement available.
