Salary: $9,631.00 - $12,054.00 per month. Effective July 1, 2025, a temporary pay reduction applies under the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. New hires start at the minimum salary of the classification.

About the Role

The Senior Data Center Electric Pricing Analyst is a leadership position within the Energy Division/Electric Rates Branch. This role shapes California energy policy by designing and implementing pricing structures that promote electrification, decarbonization, and customer equity, with a focus on the prudent interconnection of data centers. The successful candidate will manage complex proceedings, projects, and programs, providing advisory support to Administrative Law Judges, Commissioners, and other key decision-makers. The position requires balancing advanced rates that incentivize efficient grid utilization, clean energy development, and customer protections amid rapid technological innovation.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex, long-term projects involving large interdisciplinary teams to develop analytical work products under tight deadlines.
• Design and implement pricing structures that support electrification, decarbonization, and equitable customer outcomes, including data center interconnection.
• Provide advisory support to Administrative Law Judges, Commissioners, and decision-makers on electric industry pricing strategies.
• Analyze and interpret data using quantitative reasoning, spreadsheet tools, and modeling to formulate conclusions and recommendations.
• Prepare written briefings, reports, recommendations, and other technical materials based on analysis and research for diverse audiences, including policymakers and stakeholders.
• Ensure pricing strategies align with state goals for grid efficiency, clean energy development, and customer protections.

Requirements

• Eligibility for the classification of PUBLIC UTILITIES REGULATORY ANALYST V, or ability to gain eligibility through the standard examination or Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP) for applicants with disabilities.
• Experience in public utilities, economics, finance, or policy, with a focus on electric industry pricing, regulation, or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to manage interdisciplinary teams and deliver analytical work products under tight deadlines.
• Strong quantitative reasoning, spreadsheet, and modeling skills for data analysis and interpretation.
• Experience preparing written briefings, reports, or recommendations on technical subject matter for decision-makers or stakeholders.
• Valid California Driver’s License.

Qualifications

1. Describe your ability to manage complex long-term projects involving large interdisciplinary teams and development of analytical work products under tight deadlines.
2. Describe your quantitative reasoning capacity, spreadsheet and modeling skills, and ability to analyze and interpret data to formulate conclusions and recommendations.
3. Describe your experience preparing written briefings, reports, recommendations, or other materials on technical subject matter based on analysis and research. Include the purpose of the work, your role, the intended audience, and outcome.

SOQs will be evaluated based on content and writing ability using standardized criteria. Competitive applicants will be invited to an interview. Failure to submit a completed SOQ may result in disqualification.
