Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and technical direction for assigned data center projects, including new construction, colocation developments, phased expansions, retrofits, upgrades, and acquisition conversions.
  • Provide owner-side engineering leadership to ensure projects meet Oracle’s technical, operational, reliability, redundancy, maintainability, and performance requirements.
  • Support site selection and technical due diligence for prospective data center sites.
  • Evaluate mechanical infrastructure risk, reliability, redundancy, resiliency, capacity, expandability, operational constraints, and alignment with Oracle’s performance and deployment requirements.
  • Develop and maintain owner’s performance requirements, mechanical basis of design criteria, specifications, design standards, and technical guidelines for data center mechanical systems.
  • Translate Oracle’s business, operational, and IT equipment requirements into clear infrastructure requirements for design partners, colocation providers, consultants, contractors, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Provide technical leadership for high-density compute and liquid cooling deployments, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling, technology cooling systems, cooling distribution units, heat rejection systems, water quality considerations, controls integration, deployment strategies, and scalable design approaches.
  • Work with internal hardware and platform teams to understand ITE cooling requirements and translate those requirements into building infrastructure design criteria.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with electrical, controls, architecture, structural, plumbing, fire protection, hardware, networking, construction, commissioning, operations, procurement, and external design teams.
  • Identify technical dependencies, resolve design conflicts, evaluate tradeoffs, and drive alignment across disciplines.
  • Perform detailed design reviews for data centers being designed or built for Oracle.
  • Review drawings, specifications, sequence of operations, CFD studies, equipment selections, calculations, controls narratives, commissioning documentation, and other technical deliverables to verify alignment with Oracle standards, design intent, operational expectations, and project-specific requirements.
  • Work directly with colocation providers, consultants, contractors, and engineering partners to ensure mechanical systems are properly designed, specified, installed, commissioned, and capable of supporting robust data center operation.
  • Provide technical direction and feedback throughout design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Lead mechanical equipment qualification and technical evaluation efforts for major data center systems and components.
  • Work directly with equipment manufacturers to pre-qualify products for use on Oracle projects, including development of technical specifications, performance requirements, test scripts, factory witness testing protocols, review of submittals, evaluation of test results, and final technical feedback or sign-off.
  • Identify and resolve complex mechanical and cross-functional engineering issues requiring independent judgment, technical depth, and strong initiative.
  • Evaluate alternatives, assess risk, develop recommendations, and drive decisions that improve reliability, scalability, maintainability, speed to market, and execution quality.
  • Contribute to the development of Oracle’s mechanical design standards, policies, procedures, and lessons-learned processes.
  • Incorporate findings from design reviews, audits, operational feedback, commissioning activities, vendor engagement, and field experience into improved standards and repeatable workflows.
  • Develop technical whitepapers, design guidance, technical narratives, presentations, and training materials for internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Provide clear explanations of design intent, system operation, infrastructure requirements, and operational considerations for teams such as operations, construction, procurement, and regional delivery teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support the technical development of the broader team.
  • Share subject matter expertise, review work products, provide guidance on technical decision-making, and contribute to training programs for newer team members.
  • Provide expert input to contracts, scopes of work, change orders, technical exhibits, procurement documents, cost forecasts, and other project documentation where mechanical infrastructure requirements, risks, or performance criteria must be clearly defined.
  • Represent Oracle in technical meetings, design summits, vendor workshops, factory witness testing, commissioning reviews, and engineering forums.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and provide senior-level technical leadership in support of Oracle’s data center delivery objectives.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
    • Professional Engineering license preferred.
    • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design, construction, commissioning, or owner-side technical leadership for mission critical facilities, data centers, or similarly complex infrastructure.
    • Strong working knowledge of data center mechanical systems, including chilled water systems, evaporative cooling, airside cooling, liquid cooling, heat rejection, pumping systems, controls, redundancy strategies, maintainability, commissioning, and operational risk.
    • Experience with high-density compute environments and liquid cooling technologies preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, controls sequences, CFD analyses, calculations, commissioning documentation, and equipment submittals.
    • Experience developing technical standards, basis of design documents, owner’s requirements, specifications, whitepapers, or design guidance.
    • Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholder groups, including hardware, electrical, controls, architecture, structural, construction, operations, procurement, and external design partners.
    • Strong technical writing, communication, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to evaluate complex technical issues, make risk-based recommendations, and drive alignment across internal and external teams.
