Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Server database environments.
- Manage database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, replication, connectivity, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.
- Support SQL Server Always On configurations, clustering, and other high-availability technologies.
- Review database architecture and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Design, develop, and optimize stored procedures, functions, triggers, scripts, and complex SQL queries.
- Implement indexing strategies and troubleshoot query, key-selection, and performance issues.
- Manage Azure database virtual machines and related database infrastructure.
- Configure and support Power BI datasets, gateways, refresh schedules, and related configurations.
- Build and maintain ETL workflows, including SSIS packages for data integration and transformation.
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate database administration tasks and operational processes.
- Implement database migrations and changes, including developing and testing migration procedures.
- Implement version control and DevOps practices for database objects.
- Establish and maintain database security guidelines, procedures, standards, and technical documentation.
- Develop database administration tools, utilities, and operational procedures.
- Assist with data purge and archival strategies for historical application data.
- Collaborate with application, BI, and IT teams to define data storage, retrieval, integration, and performance requirements.
- Cross-train with other database administrators and provide technical guidance to junior team members when needed.
- Provide on-call or after-hours support when required to resolve database issues or support critical processes.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that address business and technical needs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of database administration experience with a bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree.
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery, disaster recovery, replication, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with SQL Server Always On availability groups and clustering.
- Strong Transact-SQL skills, including developing and optimizing complex queries and stored procedures.
- Experience designing and supporting relational databases, physical data models, system interfaces, and database architecture.
- Experience managing database infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, including Azure database virtual machines.
- Strong PowerShell scripting experience for automation and database administration.
- Experience configuring and supporting Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules.
- Experience implementing database migrations, security controls, indexing strategies, and performance improvements.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database, application, and infrastructure issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, customer service, and technical documentation skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and collaborate effectively across teams and organizational groups.
- Must be local to the Phoenix, Arizona area and able to meet onsite requirements.
- Must be eligible to convert to full-time employment without current or future visa sponsorship.
