About the role

Labcorp is seeking a US Remote-based Senior Cytogenetics Technologist to join our team supporting our facility in RTP, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of chromosomes, including imaging and karyotyping of cytogenetic specimens, with a focus on FISH and oncology chromosome analysis
  • Analyze chromosomes for count, structural abnormality, and morphology from computer-acquired images of metaphases according to appropriate SOPs
  • Prepare preliminary reports by arranging (karyotyping) chromosome pairs in proper numerical sequence for director interpretation
  • Enter analysis information into appropriate computer systems for director review
  • Check karyotypes according to departmental and group procedures and protocols prior to director review
  • Ensure chromosomes are placed and oriented properly
  • Verify patient demographic information and that karyotypes match written diagnoses
  • Ensure karyotypes are appropriate for director review based on the test ordered and result
  • Remote transfer of electronic images to and from satellite reading labs for analysis
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory and computer equipment in the designated area
  • Participate in proficiency testing as required and maintain records demonstrating proficiency samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
  • Attend all required meetings and represent the laboratory in a professional manner
  • Participate in required continuing education activities
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the department and company

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 4+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures
  • Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Qualifications

  • In lieu of the education requirements listed, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may be accepted
  • Certification by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG), ASCP, or AMT is preferred

Work From Home Requirements

  • Private, HIPAA-compliant workspace
  • Agreement to include home address in case reporting (CMS requirement)
  • Internet with a minimum speed of 100 Mbps
  • Ability to work remotely in a fast-paced, multi-site environment

Pay

Pay Range: $33 - $38 per hour. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are eligible only for the 401(k) Plan. Employees on a 7 on/7 off schedule receive all benefits except PTO or FTO.
