About the role
The Florida Gaming Control Commission ("Commission") is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing, monitoring, and researching crime reports to identify activities, patterns, and techniques used to facilitate and conduct illegal gambling;
- Using intelligence resources to establish connections between criminal activity and persons or organizations;
- Creating products related to Commission enforcement activity, crime reporting topics of interest, and other needs as identified by supervisors;
- Researching crime reporting data to ensure that information received or disseminated is accurate and complies with state and federal requirements;
- Maintaining regular contact with local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies, other criminal justice agencies outside of the state of Florida, and non-criminal justice agencies for gathering and organizing information on current and developing criminal activity in illegal gambling;
- Assembling and arranging evidence and work products for trial purposes, and preparing a wide variety of related reports, graphs, charts, and exhibits, and otherwise assisting investigative personnel and prosecutors with grand jury and trial activities;
- Testifying, when required, before a statewide, state, or federal grand jury or trial jury and during other proceedings, as to information obtained and/or analyzed;
- Maintaining familiarity with legal issues surrounding the analytic process, including privacy, confidentiality, civil rights, and civil liberties protections within the intelligence cycle and products, such as the application of the 28 CFR Part 23 regulation and the handling of personally identifiable information (PII);
- Representing the Commission at multi-agency intelligence sharing meetings;
- Assisting with background checks of commission-sworn and non-sworn applicants;
- Traveling as required to provide investigative support;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience in criminal intelligence, crime analysis, or investigative analysis at a law enforcement agency;
- Experience in military intelligence or homeland security intelligence, or experience in financial analysis at a governmental or private sector entity, can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience;
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of law enforcement analytical experience preferred.

- Knowledge of law enforcement intelligence databases and resources;
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize criminal intelligence data;

- Ability to monitor criminal justice information activities;
- Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
- Ability to deal with the public and others in a tactful, courteous, and effective manner.
