About the role
Evaluates the financial condition of individuals and businesses applying for consumer, commercial, and real estate credit with the bank. Handles loans of varied complexity, with a focus on the highest-complexity credits.
Responsibilities
- Supports lenders through financial and credit analysis, collateral analysis, ratio calculation, and other underwriting support for new loans, renewals, and loan reviews.
- Reviews credits above $500K for commercial real estate loans and above $250K for commercial/consumer loans.
- Researches and analyzes pertinent financial information for existing and potential commercial and consumer clients.
- Collects client-prepared information and completes internal financial statement spreadsheets and projections of client’s financial condition.
- Provides research into industry trends and evaluates market data impacting prospective or existing clients’ business.
- Evaluates and reports on collateral adequacy.
- Analyzes personal and corporate documents, including balance sheets, income statements, tax returns, and K1 schedules, to assess stability, management aptitude, and creditworthiness.
- Validates assumptions, projections, and overall company viability to determine ability to repay credit requests.
- Uses internal and web-based analysis tools to document findings.
- Reviews appraisal reports.
- Prepares and presents written credit memoranda for credit approval, ensuring adherence to credit policy guidelines and noting deviations with supporting mitigants.
- Provides guidance to line partners regarding specific requirements of Credit Policy.
- Evaluates and recommends loan terms, covenants, and conditions to ensure compliance with Credit Policy.
- Monitors and reports on covenant compliance for assigned loans and interacts with partners to address non-compliance.
- Evaluates bank vendors’ stability and analyzes pertinent financial information.
- Researches and analyzes financial information for existing ACH clients.
- Assists the Chief Credit Officer in completing portfolio stress tests.
- Provides coaching and mentorship to Credit Specialists and Credit Analysts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Five years of commercial and commercial real estate underwriting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry laws and regulations related to credit risk.
- Solid understanding of commercial credit analysis, including financial conditions, operating results, and cash flow analysis.
- Formal credit training required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
