About the role
The Senior Credit Analyst supports commercial lenders through detailed financial and credit analysis, performs industry trend research, trains and mentors less experienced analysts, independently underwrites loans, prepares internal reports, and assists in loan portfolio reviews.
Responsibilities
- Analyze financial information of prospective and existing borrowers and underwrite loans within 5 working days, ensuring accuracy and detail.
- Work directly with Commercial Lending Officers to gather necessary information for loan requests.
- Create spreadsheets, analyze financial information, and develop cash flows for prospective and existing borrowers.
- Prepare loan offering memoranda, assess credit risk, and present loan requests to appropriate authority levels.
- Analyze perspectives vendors annually and respond to requests as needed.
- Lead, train, and coach the Credit Analyst team and provide support for the department Manager.
- Assist in collecting information to ensure borrowers’ financial capacity and adherence to loan covenants.
- Maintain accurate records of financial information for each commercial borrower and manage loan files.
- Determine the scope of commercial loan portfolio reviews and assist in providing requested information to an outside loan review firm.
- Act as a liaison with the outside loan review firm and attend meetings with prospective and existing clients.
- On a limited basis, call on prospective borrowers and attend meetings with clients to understand their credit needs.
- Participate in Management Loan Committee meetings and support the Commercial Credit Manager and/or Team Lead with training and development.
- Prepare required reporting for Management Loan Committee and Board of Trustees as needed.
- Conduct high-quality credit presentations and perform accurate credit analysis on all projects assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, finance, or accounting, supplemented with formal credit training.
- Good financial analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with automated underwriting systems is beneficial.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 4+ years of related commercial underwriting experience.
- Knowledge of financial statement fundamentals, accounting concepts, and industry trends and practices.
