Senior CPU Core Physical Design Engineer

About the role

The US CPU design team at Intel is seeking an experienced CPU Physical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of next-generation CPU designs. This role involves implementing custom CPU designs from RTL to GDS, conducting all aspects of the physical design flow, and optimizing CPU designs to improve product-level parameters.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical design implementation of custom CPU designs from RTL to GDS to create a design database ready for manufacturing.
• Conduct all aspects of the physical design flow including synthesis, place and route, clock tree synthesis, floor planning, static timing analysis, power/clock distribution, reliability, and power and noise analysis.
• Conduct verification and signoff including formal equivalence verification, static timing analysis, reliability verification, static and dynamic power integrity, layout verification, electrical rule checking, and structural design checking.
• Analyze results and make recommendations to improve current and future CPU microarchitectures, collaborating closely with logic, circuit, architecture, and design automation teams.
• Possess CPU-specific expertise in various aspects of structural and physical design, including physical clock design, timing closure, coverage analysis, multiple power domain analysis, structured placement, routing, synthesis, and DFT.
• Work with industry EDA vendors to build and enhance tool capabilities for designing high-speed, low-power synthesizable CPUs.
• Optimize CPU design to improve product level parameters such as power, frequency, and area.
• Participate in the development and improvement of physical design methodologies and flow automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or any STEM-related degree with 6+ years of experience, or Master's degree in the same fields with 4+ years of experience.
• 4+ years of experience in VLSI circuit design and synthesis.
• 4+ years of experience in Static timing analysis.
• 4+ years of experience in Low power design.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in x86 CPU architecture.
• Tcl/Perl/Python programming experience.

Pay

Annual salary range for this role: $141,910.00 - 269,100.00 USD.

This role is available full-time with a shift schedule of Shift 1 (United States of America).
