Senior Counsel - Remote
About the role
As a Senior Counsel (2 positions), you will provide comprehensive, high-quality, and practical advice and risk-informed guidance to internal clients across the full project lifecycle—from offer development and contract negotiation through project execution and dispute resolution. This advice will concern complex commercial contracts, supporting major nuclear projects - including major customer and supplier agreements; engineering, procurement, and construction and similar mega-project agreements; teaming agreements; claims; and related legal issues. You will work with internal clients at all management levels, in-house colleagues, and manage outside counsel in accomplishing this objective. You will operate at the intersection of legal, commercial, and operational teams, ensuring alignment between business objectives and legal risk management, while supporting governance requirements and internal approval processes. You will support the global business which may involve projects in Europe, the Middle East, and elsewhere. Depending on your ultimate assignment, you will report to the Assistant General Counsel, APx or Deputy General Counsel, OPx. This is a remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support to the APX or OPX commercial operations teams. This support includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, financing agreements and strategic corporate alliances, as well as providing related legal advice for large and complex customer contracts, including new reactor development projects and related procurements.
- Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed advice and counsel to internal clients on complex commercial agreements, teaming agreements and joint ventures, engineering services agreements and feasibility studies.
- Represent us in commercial negotiations and disputes, working and negotiating with counsel who may represent utilities, project developers, construction partners, vendors and others.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills in an international environment.
- Supervise and manage external counsel as appropriate.
- Train and advise management on legal issues, compliance and risk mitigation.
- Travel domestically and internationally on an as-required basis.
- Consistent with the Westinghouse Global Ethics Code, facilitate our goals while maintaining compliance with laws and regulations and minimizing commercial legal risks. Engage with specialists to mitigate risks to the company on the full scope of legal issues associated with new reactor development.
- Remain current on legal developments within scope of responsibilities and provide updates to clients.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 5-10+ years of experience representing clients in complex industrial/construction/procurement contract negotiations or high-value major project litigation matters
- Experience providing legal advice on the full scope of commercial business issues related to mega-project contract negotiations.
- Requirement includes admission to practice in an appropriate US jurisdiction.
- Experience developing high-quality legal documents, including commercial agreements, letters and other external correspondence, memoranda.
- Foreign language skills preferred.
- Prior in-house experience preferred.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $144,000 to $180,000 per year.
