Senior Counsel – Independent Agency, Sales & Service
About the role
GEICO is seeking a Senior Counsel – Independent Agency, Sales & Service to lead legal guidance for the company's expanding independent agent and captive agent business. This role involves providing legal advice and support for insurance distribution, sales, and service programs.
Responsibilities
- Understand and align with key business objectives and strategies for supported business units
- Ensure compliance with applicable insurance regulations while driving business success
- Lead legal advice for agency, distribution, sales, and service work
- Anticipate future legal needs and provide guidance
- Coordinate with other legal teams as needed
- Provide legal guidance on independent and captive agent topics, insurance distribution, and servicing
- Use a broad range of legal knowledge to advise on business choices and their legal implications
Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience, preferably 6 years in-house, in advising on independent agent and captive agent topics, insurance distribution, sales, and servicing
- Knowledge in consumer protection laws, customer service, insurance compliance, and insurance products
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Ability to quickly understand business plans and processes
- Experience with legal knowledge across various areas including privacy, insurance compliance, consumer protection laws, insurance products, intellectual property, and contractual obligations
- Solution-oriented approach to problem-solving
- Demonstrated experience solving business problems and improving business metrics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with B2B relationship management
- Proven success in addressing novel and emerging issues
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with both internal and external business partners
- Experience providing legal support on distributing insurance or other regulated products through third parties
Location
This position is hybrid, requiring 3 days onsite at Bethesda, MD, New York City, NY, or Cleveland, OH locations.
Pay
$148,625.00 - $260,350.00 annually. Final salary determined based on scope and responsibilities, work experience, education, location, and market considerations.
