Senior Counsel, Health Tech
General Legal is an AI-native law firm built to deliver high-quality legal work faster and more predictably than traditional firms. We combine experienced, U.S.-barred attorneys with AI-native workflows to handle drafting, review, and negotiation end to end—without billable hours, bloated process, or junior handoffs. We operate like a startup with modern tooling, outcome-based pricing, remote-friendly work, and meaningful ownership for the people doing the work. By using AI to make the routine parts of contracting effortless, we give our attorneys the space to focus on judgment, negotiation, and advising clients on what actually matters.
About the Role
We're building out a dedicated health tech practice and are looking for an attorney with deep, focused experience in this vertical. You'll serve as the primary point of contact for health tech clients, addressing their full range of healthcare-related legal needs, including HIPAA and health data privacy guidance, FDA and digital health regulatory questions, and reviewing and negotiating BAAs and other healthcare-specific contracts. You'll also help build institutional infrastructure by improving templates, developing precedent libraries, and training other attorneys on healthcare-related matters.
Responsibilities
- Client Work
- Act as a trusted advisor to health tech clients on HIPAA, compliance, and other healthcare regulatory questions, providing guidance grounded in current law and seasoned judgment.
- Review and negotiate BAAs and other healthcare-specific contracts, including vendor, data-sharing, and health data agreements.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for both clients and internal attorneys on healthcare and health tech questions.
- Knowledge Development
- Review, revise, and improve BAA and healthcare contract templates and standard documents.
- Build a healthcare and health tech precedent library that reflects current best practices and integrate it into the product.
- Develop training materials and lead sessions for attorneys encountering healthcare questions in their broader work.
- Contribute to internal knowledge databases with practical, usable healthcare guidance.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
- 8+ years of deep, focused experience in healthcare regulatory and health tech transactional work, ideally including top-tier firm work, a leading in-house health tech role, or a regulatory agency background.
- Hands-on experience drafting and negotiating BAAs and other healthcare-specific contracts.
- Encyclopedic knowledge of HIPAA, FDA, and digital health regulatory frameworks, with a strong current awareness of developments in the space.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge-sharing; comfortable working with attorneys across experience levels.
- Clear, confident communicator who can translate regulatory complexity into practical guidance for health tech founders and teams.
Skills
- Fast and efficient in producing high-quality work product.
- Proficient in drafting and revising BAAs and other healthcare contracts.
- Experienced in using AI tools in legal practice.
- Direct and concise communication style, with clear recommendations and appropriate caveats.
