About the role

The Senior Cost Manager oversees cost estimation processes and ensures adherence to company and client standards. They interact with clients, consultants, and designers to align project goals with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans and specifications during pre-construction to complete quantity take-offs and prepare estimates for architectural, structural, and civil scopes from schematic through final design.
  • Create value engineering, cost option, and cost strategy estimates.
  • Prepare independent post-contract estimates, including reporting differences in scope, quantities, and pricing from contractors' estimates.
  • Work as a key member of the Estimating Team to analyze plans and specifications, conduct takeoffs, and price various construction projects.
  • Lead the Estimating Team in reviewing estimates before supervisor approval.
  • Analyze data influencing costs, such as materials, labor, equipment, and profit margins.
  • Evaluate cost estimating deliverables prepared by architects and engineers for cost containment.
  • Acquire and evaluate historical and vendor cost data for developing cost estimates and price recommendations.
  • Forecast costs for future projects and changes to existing projects.
  • Prepare technical evaluations, cost estimating draft reports, memos, and letters, and present recommendations to management and clients.
  • Attend client meetings and participate in design charrettes and workshops, presenting estimates to clients and architect/engineer teams.
  • Contribute to value engineering studies, reconciliations, and negotiations with contractors.
  • Prepare work in progress reports from contractor draw requests.
  • Undertake other cost-related tasks as directed by supervisor, including reviewing estimates prepared by others.
  • Assist in training and mentoring others.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively to contribute to team performance and understand client desired project outcomes, identifying opportunities to add value.

Requirements

Minimum Education: 4-year college degree in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Cost Estimating, or equivalent recognized technical qualification.

Minimum Experience: 5-10 years’ relevant experience in construction cost estimating of various building types from program, conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document stages of design in elemental and CSI format for architectural, structural, and civil components of new construction and renovation projects.

Some MEP estimating experience preferred.

AACE International and/or Certified Cost Professional preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of cost management services execution; good planning, organization, and communication skills essential.

Understanding of technical and non-technical documents related to cost management services required.

Knowledge and use of industry-estimating software and Microsoft Office software programs.
