About the role
This position provides legal and commercial counsel for a line of business and/or staff group within the Office of the General Counsel. The role serves as primary legal support for the line of business and/or staff group and its senior management teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal and commercial counsel for a line of business and/or staff group
- Serve as primary legal support for a line of business and/or staff group and its respective senior management teams
- Conduct research, interpret new as well as existing laws and regulations directly impacting the organization's business to ensure ongoing statutory and regulatory compliance
- Identify and assess risk and determine and effectuate appropriate course of action for a broad spectrum of risks for specific business areas and others with department wide/Line of Business (LOB) consequences
- Act as an advisor to other legal staff within the department on specific practice areas
- Autonomously act as a LOB Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the main point of contact for legal concerns for business partners and department(s)
- Provide advice and guidance on daily commercial legal matters relevant to the business and/or staff group as well as on an enterprise-wide level
- Maintain relationships with outside counsel
- Provide recommendations on partnership, contract, etc.
Requirements
- Typically Has The Following Skills Or Abilities:
- Juris Doctorate degree and a current State Bar License to practice law
- 7+ years of experience in-house or law firm that specializes in health care and/or (other specialized area - procurement, M&A, regulatory, or privacy)
- Proven success in practice areas; managed teams or team project work; proven ability to support executive leadership and above
- Excellent organization skills, detail oriented and ability to multitask
- Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills
- Proactively collaborates with the LOB and the Office of General Counsel to mitigate risk
- Ability to drive results through informal authority and serve as a consultant to business partners
- Demonstrates ability to be a decision-maker showing balanced consideration of business issues
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the job duties
Qualifications
