Senior Corporate and Investment Fund Accountant

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Corporate and Investment Accounting, the Senior Corporate and Investment Accountant develops a strong understanding of Middleburg Communities’ private investing platform, oversees the international shared service provider, and executes day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, brings an analytical mindset to forecasting, financial packages, reconciliations, journal entries, and cash flow analyses, and aligns with Middleburg’s Mission, Values, and Vision of Excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop a strong understanding of the private investing platform, including complex legal entity structures.
• Interpret, implement, and administer accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare and complete corporate financial statements and bank reconciliations accurately and on time; analyze data, draw conclusions, and recommend changes.
• Oversee the performance of the Company’s international shared service accounting team, manage outputs, ensure contract adherence, and provide feedback and coaching.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations, capital accounts, and intercompany accounts to address errors in account balances.
• Serve as the primary contact on areas of responsibility and provide expert advice to team members.
• Prepare and process journal entries accurately and timely with supporting documentation.
• Ensure invoice coding is accurate and payments are correctly applied.
• Prepare and maintain complete, accurate, and organized workpapers in accordance with departmental requirements and deadlines.
• Accurately calculate General Partner, Limited Partner, and Asset Management fees as required by investment management agreements.
• Assist in preparation for and support completion of the annual US GAAP audit.
• Work closely with tax preparers on annual tax returns and filings.
• Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
• Maintain company expense reimbursement policy and system.
• Handle ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash Management

• Assist in planning long and short-term business objectives by actively participating in the budget process.
• Design and prepare detailed financial analysis, including bespoke data requests.
• Prepare and analyze the Company’s periodic cash position report for all Corporate entities.
• Prepare and analyze annual corporate budgets and periodic reforecasts.
• Assess corporate performance against budget, explaining significant variances.
• Initiate and/or review transfers/wires/ACHs and process stop payments on checks as required.

Fund Accounting

• Prepare monthly and quarterly fund and joint venture financials as required by fund or joint venture agreements.
• Assist the Investment and Asset Management teams in preparing fund and joint venture reporting.
• Maintain complete books and records of all fund structures and related legal entities, including foreign entities and general partner entities.

Requirements

• A passion for excellence in customer service delivery.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business and/or Accounting.
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
• 3+ years of overall experience.
• Proven leadership skills and excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Thorough knowledge and experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements, completing bank reconciliations, creating journal entries, and completing other account reconciliations.
• Experience in public accounting or real estate private equity, including fund and separate account accounting and work with institutional investors, is preferred.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000–100,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and internal equity.
