About the role

We are seeking a self-starter with excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills. The ideal candidate must be able to effectively direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, control, and timely completion of assigned engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, control, and timely completion of assigned engineering projects within the area of responsibility.
  • Works effectively with all departments to establish operational efficiency of production equipment, focusing on safety, budgeting, work quality, quantity, and teamwork.
  • Supports continuous improvements through lean initiatives, automation, modification of existing equipment and processes, and new equipment development.
  • Produces control systems and application programs that are safe, logical, and functional according to the defined scope of work.
  • Provides controls engineering support to the Oxide, Metals, Pasting, Assembly, Formation, and Shipping Departments as required.
  • Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
  • Provides technical support for troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading Programmable Logic Controllers and automated processes.
  • Builds SCADA and MES solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency and drive strategic process improvements.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering lean principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments (automation), scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases as required.
  • Controls expenditures within the limitations of project budgets.
  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.
  • Uses computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal OSHA, EPA, and employment laws.
  • Reviews and complies with Quality Initiatives and ISO/TS: 16949 procedures.
  • Conducts training classes with Technicians to improve support staff.
  • Completes a program of classroom instruction for hazardous waste training within six months of starting the position, with a review every 12 months thereafter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls Engineering or a related field, required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in automation design with electronic circuit technology (analog, digital, and/or high voltage design) and Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Knowledge required in the design, repair, and analysis of machinery, electronics systems, programmable logic controllers, analog circuits, and simulation tools.

Qualifications

  • General walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and climbing to access workstations and related equipment and processes.
  • Work environment: General Office, Fabrication Shop, and Production Floor.
  • Equipment used: Must possess the required computer skills to operate properly and effectively, including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other computer skills as required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Travel: Occasional domestic travel may be necessary to fulfill business needs and support various projects and initiatives.
