About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Controls SCADA Engineer to design and develop Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) using industrial-grade programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and visualization through Ignition. In this role, you will architect, develop, and deploy the LGESVT Power Plant Controller, delivering industry-leading, highly efficient, and customizable solutions for energy storage systems across applications including renewables integration, resource adequacy, and AI.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy power plant controller logic implemented in PLCs for controlling multiple generation resources (BESS, generators, PVs) and customer loads in grid-connected and islanded operations.
- Primary development will use structured text on IEC 61131-2 compliant PLCs.
- Interface with protection relays and switchgear for starting and operating the power plant, addressing potential cybersecurity concerns and project requirements.
- Configure OPC UA, DNP3, and other communication protocols for interfacing with plant controllers, group controllers, and IEDs for real-time data acquisition and control.
- Develop SCADA applications using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform.
- Perform system commissioning, testing, and validation.
- Maintain excellent documentation capturing controller designs.
- Report on the status of development and project timelines to relevant stakeholders.
- Interface with program management, project management, and project engineers to deliver controls functionality and performance according to project specifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
- 5 to 8+ years of hands-on industrial or utility controls experience.
- Strong experience with PLC programming (structured text, function blocks) in power plant control or industrial automation.
- Strong knowledge of industrial networking protocols (OPC UA, DNP3, Modbus, GOOSE) and database integration (SQL).
- Experience configuring and controlling protection relays and switchgear.
- Experience with Ignition SCADA (Vision and/or Perspective modules) or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in industrial environments.
- Experience with Single Line Diagrams, switchgear, and protection relays.
- Excellent verbal, written, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work as a key member of a development team and interface well with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and respect for all phases of the product development process, especially requirements, specification development, and release control.
Desired Skills
- Experience with Schweitzer RTAC devices.
- Experience using medium voltage equipment such as inverters and transformers.
