  • Primary development will use structured text on IEC 61131-2 compliant PLCs.
  • Interface with protection relays and switchgear for starting and operating the power plant, addressing potential cybersecurity concerns and project requirements.
  • Configure OPC UA, DNP3, and other communication protocols for interfacing with plant controllers, group controllers, and IEDs for real-time data acquisition and control.
  • Develop SCADA applications using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform.
  • Perform system commissioning, testing, and validation.
  • Maintain excellent documentation capturing controller designs.
  • Report on the status of development and project timelines to relevant stakeholders.
  • Interface with program management, project management, and project engineers to deliver controls functionality and performance according to project specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
  • 5 to 8+ years of hands-on industrial or utility controls experience.
  • Strong experience with PLC programming (structured text, function blocks) in power plant control or industrial automation.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networking protocols (OPC UA, DNP3, Modbus, GOOSE) and database integration (SQL).
  • Experience configuring and controlling protection relays and switchgear.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA (Vision and/or Perspective modules) or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in industrial environments.
  • Experience with Single Line Diagrams, switchgear, and protection relays.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work as a key member of a development team and interface well with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and respect for all phases of the product development process, especially requirements, specification development, and release control.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Schweitzer RTAC devices.
  • Experience using medium voltage equipment such as inverters and transformers.
