About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Controls Engineer based in the United States. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced automation professional to lead the design and implementation of advanced control systems for large-scale material handling and industrial automation projects.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and implementation of electrical control systems and automation solutions for material handling, warehouse distribution, parcel, baggage handling, and manufacturing environments.
- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI applications, primarily utilizing Rockwell Automation technologies, while contributing to system standardization and software improvements.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and project teams to define requirements and deliver integrated automation solutions.
- Lead system integration efforts, including testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, start-up activities, and customer acceptance processes.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to controls and commissioning engineers, promoting best practices and supporting professional development.
- Cook up with software development teams to ensure alignment with established engineering standards and control architectures.
- Diagnose and resolve control system issues during development, deployment, and production phases to ensure optimal system performance.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, operations teams, and customers to align technical solutions with business objectives and project timelines.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, industrial networking standards, and automation methodologies to drive innovation and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is considered an advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in controls engineering, PLC/HMI development, electrical system design, and commissioning within automation or material handling environments.
- Strong expertise in industrial automation systems, controls architecture, and automated material handling technologies.
- Advanced experience with PLC platforms, particularly Rockwell ControlLogix and CompactLogix systems.
- Proficiency with HMI and SCADA solutions such as FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Aveva, Indusoft, or similar technologies.
- Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, and ControlNet.
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motion control systems, and related automation technologies.
- Prominent background in system integration, commissioning, and on-site deployment of industrial automation solutions.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities in complex technical environments.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt effectively within fast-paced project environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required to support installation, commissioning, and customer project activities.
