About the role

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will develop control system designs, deploy and commission PLC code, and create graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. This role collaborates with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering resources, providing feedback related to design requirements supporting system functionality. You will also define and lead system commissioning responsibilities during project implementation phases.

Responsibilities

• Develop control system designs, deploy, and commission Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code, and develop graphical user interfaces for material handling systems.
• Test and emulate code functionality before on-site deployment and testing.
• Troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment functionality on-site during commissioning and testing activities.
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering and other Engineering disciplines to support control network architecture requirements, design development, and execution.
• Support the Project Manager in controlling the scope, schedule, and budget; assist with identifying potential changes and mitigating controls-related risks.
• Define electrical device requirements for system control.
• Develop documentation outlining system control functionality and operation.
• Support estimates for complex module development and system commissioning requirements.
• Perform reviews of complex customer standards, specifications, and other documentation to determine system requirements.
• Develop recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction, and improvement in customer satisfaction.
• Complete the software quality process through the execution of complex module, subsystem, and system test procedures.
• Mentor other controls engineers technically and professionally.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field (required).
• Seven (7) years of work experience in the material handling industry or a similar industry (required); a master’s degree may be considered in lieu of experience, requiring at least 5 years of work experience.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming, including GuardLogix; Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming, including Starter.
• Experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture.
• Experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings and understanding HMI programming.
• Proven experience leading teams of controls engineers in large, complex material handling projects.
• Experience adhering to project timelines and budgets, with a background in industrial machine control development and troubleshooting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills, with a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and consistently deliver results on time.
• Ability to travel up to 70% of the year, working short-duration assignments up to and including multiple 10/4 rotations, depending on project requirements.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position with a hybrid work schedule for individuals located within Atlanta, Georgia, Irving, Texas, or Charlotte, NC offices. Employees in these locations are expected to work three days per week in the office. Individuals located outside of these areas will work remotely.
