Senior Controls Engineer

Our client is an established industrial engineering and equipment organization specializing in engineered process heating and related plant systems for industrial applications around the world. Their Tulsa engineering operation is intentionally lean, giving engineers meaningful ownership over projects rather than placing them into narrow technical silos.

About the role

This is a hands-on engineering environment where controls professionals are involved from the early design stages through programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The organization is looking for a senior-level engineer who can contribute technically today while developing into a leadership role within the controls team.

• Real technical ownership: work across programming, design, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting instead of being confined to one narrow controls function.
• Clear leadership opportunity: grow into managing the controls group, beginning with oversight of approximately two engineers and potentially expanding from there.
• Varied industrial projects: work with engineered process equipment and complex control systems rather than repetitive, cookie-cutter automation projects.
• Strong technical team: join an engineering organization of roughly 20 engineers in Tulsa where experienced professionals have meaningful responsibility and visibility.
• Predictable travel: averages roughly one trip every other month, generally lasting no more than a week.

Responsibilities

• Develop PLC/HMI programming and controls engineering solutions.
• Create electrical drawings, panel layouts, I/O documentation, control narratives, and related engineering deliverables.
• Work across both controls programming and electrical/controls design (approximately a 50/50 blend).
• Participate in commissioning, startup, FAT/SAT, troubleshooting, and field implementation.
• Review work, delegate assignments, and eventually lead other engineers.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of controls engineering experience in an industrial, process, manufacturing, or related environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming and controls engineering.
• Allen-Bradley / Rockwell experience strongly preferred; Triconex experience is a major plus.
• Understanding of applicable electrical and instrumentation standards including NEC, NFPA, ISA, UL, IEC, or similar.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Pay

$110,000 - $140,000 per year
