Our client in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Senior Contract Analyst for a 6-month contract role.

About the role

This is a senior-level position requiring extensive ISDA experience in the Energy Industry, particularly with gas and power Annex agreements, as well as Dodd-Frank knowledge. The candidate will draft and negotiate master trading agreements and related ancillary agreements to govern physical and financial transactions for energy commodities, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and internal standards while minimizing credit, legal, and operational risk.

The role is based onsite Monday through Thursday and remote on Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the client’s documentation, credit, treasury, and legal policies and procedures to discuss issues with Credit, Legal, and Operations teams.
  • Apply expertise in commonly used contract provisions to suggest alternative clauses where possible.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and modify Master Agreements, provisions, and templates based on the client’s credit, treasury, and legal policies.
  • Develop, manage, and leverage workflow management systems to track and communicate the status of matters aligned with business priorities.
  • Maintain work-in-progress on the team’s shared drive; upload agreements and documents to the client’s database; input key provisions to ensure database accuracy; and run reports as needed.
  • Adhere to the Contracts Team’s processes, policies, and best practices for drafting, negotiating, and managing agreements.
  • Enhance existing activities, bridge control gaps, and ensure awareness and alignment with policies across relevant teams.
  • Communicate and engage effectively with business, Credit, Legal, Compliance, and Settlements teams.
  • Assist in delivering special projects, such as implementing the creation, novation, modification, termination, or assignment of agreements to align with strategic business changes.

Requirements

  • Experience working with standard industry trading agreements (e.g., ISDA, NGL NAESB, EEI, Gas NAESB, IECA’s), General Terms and Conditions, assignments, and novations.
  • Highly competent in working with legal language and understanding compliance issues affecting the trading and marketing of energy commodities.
  • Ability to critically analyze contract clauses to balance creative problem-solving with adequate risk protection.
  • In-depth knowledge of Dodd-Frank requirements.
  • Relentless commitment to excellence and meeting business objectives.
  • Self-assurance to work autonomously under high-pressure, fast-paced circumstances.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interactions with personnel at various levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
