Senior Consulting Engineer – Government Cloud Managed Services
About the role
The primary purpose of this position is to manage, maintain, implement, and improve cloud-focused, platform-agnostic IT infrastructure environments supporting Government customers and regulated workloads. This role focuses on secure cloud, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure Government/GCC High, Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Supported environments will include multi-cloud platforms; compute, storage, networking, security, identity, observability, automation, backup, database, and service management capabilities; and customer or hosted data center environments. The position ensures high levels of availability, security, performance, compliance, and operational stability for supported Government systems and business applications.
The ideal candidate will have advanced technical expertise across multiple cloud platforms, the ability to design and operate secure Government cloud environments, experience applying compliance frameworks and security controls, and the ability to support mission-critical customer environments through participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational support, administration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management for Government customer cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments across Azure Government/GCC High, AWS GovCloud, and/or GCP.
- Monitor, maintain, and optimize customer cloud environments to ensure availability, performance, security, compliance, and adherence to defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Perform incident, problem, change, and request management activities following established ITIL, security, compliance, and operational processes.
- Respond to and resolve customer incidents, service requests, alerts, and operational issues across cloud compute, storage, networking, identity, security, automation, monitoring, backup, and platform services.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting critical Government customer environments, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation of complex cloud and infrastructure issues while driving preventative actions to improve reliability.
- Support secure cloud operations by applying Government compliance requirements and security frameworks, including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, DISA STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and other applicable standards.
- Manage and maintain cloud configurations, access controls, security controls, monitoring, logging, automation, and operational documentation.
- Implement approved changes, upgrades, patches, migrations, and configuration updates while following established change management processes.
- Develop and maintain automation, Infrastructure as Code, scripts, runbooks, knowledge articles, and operational procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Perform capacity management, performance analysis, health assessments, and proactive remediation activities to improve customer environments.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to improve cloud architecture, operational maturity, security posture, automation, and service delivery outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with customers, account teams, project managers, and internal stakeholders regarding incidents, changes, risks, technical issues, and service performance.
- Maintain accurate service documentation, incident records, change records, knowledge articles, and customer environment documentation.
- Participate in customer service reviews, technical discussions, and operational meetings to support customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Customer Success, Professional Services, Security, Architecture, Sales, and Operations teams to deliver high-quality Managed Services outcomes.
- Support pre-sales activities by providing technical expertise, solution recommendations, and input into cloud Managed Services opportunities.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend cloud technologies, automation capabilities, security solutions, and operational improvements that enhance Managed Services offerings.
- Mentor and support team members by sharing technical knowledge, operational best practices, and cloud engineering expertise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of IT infrastructure engineering experience, including cloud, platform, systems, network, automation, or operations engineering experience, OR 9 total years of IT engineering experience, including 5 years of relevant infrastructure or cloud engineering experience.
- IT engineering experience with one or more infrastructure or cloud solutions supported by the Managed Services practice, including cloud platforms, enterprise storage, Windows and/or Unix/Linux systems, virtualization, observability, automation, databases, security tools, and service management platforms.
- Advanced-level technical certifications in at least two of the following three cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud solutions across one or more of the following platforms: Microsoft Azure Government / Azure GCC High; AWS GovCloud (US); Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Ability and drive to further technical education through achieving certification and training plans specific to relevant cloud, infrastructure, automation, security, or service management technologies.
- Experience applying Government and industry compliance frameworks, including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, FISMA, DISA STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, or comparable security standards.
- History of balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with the ability to adapt to changing customer needs while meeting deadlines.

Pay
Pay range: $96,000 - $150,180 depending on experience and skill set. Quarterly bonus target of 10% subject to terms and conditions of plan. Salary ranges may be subject to geographic differentials.
