About the role

The Network Industries Strategies (“NIS”) group at FTI Consulting uses economic and financial analysis and market modeling to analyze complex issues involving pricing, valuation, sustainability, and costs of service across the spectrum of network industries. Our energy team delivers data-driven insights on U.S. power and natural gas markets that support strategic planning, long-term resource planning, asset transactions and due diligence, quantitative policy analysis, regulatory filings, and expert testimony.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, process, and analyze information to develop solutions for clients.
  • Provide analytic support and draft for advisory services across a wide range of industries.
  • Develop written reports explaining the procedures employed.
  • Work independently and take initiative in solving problems that are faced on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ensure quality output that can withstand the scrutiny of regulators and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills, including power or gas market simulation, capacity expansion, and/or production cost modeling experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large and complex datasets, and to build reproducible, well-documented analysis.
  • Solid communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to concisely explain complicated concepts to clients and staff within and outside of the firm.
  • Ability to support and direct communication with clients and staff members on engagements, while updating senior team members on progress and issues.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment with an emphasis on collaboration and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and clients across functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related quantitative field.
  • 4+ years of relevant full-time work post-graduation professional work experience with quantitative analysis of energy systems, power and natural gas markets, forecasting models, and large dataset processing (e.g., cleaning, manipulation, and analyzing large data sets).
  • Ability to travel to FTI offices and client(s).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related business field.
  • Familiarity with the electric power and natural gas industries, including wholesale market structures and the major U.S. ISO/RTO markets.
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and possess a service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to analyze data using database and spreadsheet applications (including SQL and Microsoft Excel).
  • Project management experience that includes interacting with and presenting to senior-level team members and clients.
  • Technical writing skills (e.g., footnotes and citations, formatting tables and figures).
  • Experience evaluating fundamental market drivers (e.g., supply and demand) for natural gas and electricity, including generation economics, fuel prices, load growth, and energy and environmental policy.
  • Proficiency with PLEXOS, AURORA, or similar power market simulation tools, and with analytical languages such as R, Python, or SQL for building reproducible workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and delegate data processing and quantitative analysis tasks effectively to ensure timely progress across multiple workstreams.

Pay

Minimum Pay: $108,000
Maximum Pay: $142,500
