Senior Consultant (Medicaid Financing & Healthcare Policies - Northeast region)

About the Role
Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Senior Consultant to provide client consulting services, including objective advice, expertise, and specialized skills in Medicaid financing and healthcare policy. As the Senior Consultant, you will manage a portfolio involving financial and policy initiatives connected to supplemental payment and consulting projects within the Northeast region. You will provide project management services to client teams, ensuring direct service delivery and client satisfaction for large, complex, multi-year initiatives. You will support the Associate Director(s) and Director while guiding Consultant(s) through project phases and client engagements.
Responsibilities
- Perform assigned project tasks, maintaining client satisfaction through proactive project management; produce “client-ready” deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a key client contact to respond to questions, provide communications, and ensure successful client engagement, as assigned by an Associate Director or Director.
- Manage the strategic approach outlined by the project team and oversee ongoing implementation of projects.
- Generate sound solutions that meet client needs and write documents to contextualize technical information into understandable narratives.
- Assume increasing levels of responsibility on diverse projects and develop replicable consulting expertise.
- Anticipate, escalate, and propose solutions for service, quality, or risk issues.
- Prepare for and lead or participate in internal team and external client meetings.
- Work concurrently with Associate Directors and Consultants, managing time effectively across multiple projects and clients.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand technical and political components of projects.
- Direct client questions and requests to the appropriate team members and set project timelines.
- Hold team members accountable for their contributions and prepare authorizing documentation for state and federal partners.
- Ensure all policy decisions are incorporated into technical or financial documentation.
- Manage internal reports of team hours and maintain organized client deliverables and project timelines in a shared drive.
- Proactively manage outcomes and anticipate client needs.
- Mentor and onboard new Consultants.
- Build and expand individual networks and subject matter expertise by attending stakeholder events and conferences.
- Participate in industry/professional association activities.
- Provide research and assistance for new or expanded sales initiatives in collaboration with leadership.
- Produce and review content for internal and external marketing tools, such as newsletters, conference presentations, and website content.
- Leverage policy and healthcare expertise to help the firm develop, document, and communicate new solutions.
- Stay current on the changing federal regulatory environment, state-specific regulations, and industry trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ combined years in a policy management role and/or consulting within the healthcare industry; advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, business, economics, or MBA preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in health or human services policy research, consulting, or healthcare service delivery, or 5+ years of post-graduate experience in consulting or operational roles in healthcare and/or health policy research/analysis.
- Experience with Medicaid preferred; relevant experience in federal, state, or private healthcare sectors strongly desired.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Clear writing, confident presentation, and effective facilitation skills, with frequent communication to senior-level clients and government officials.
- Ability to work effectively with internal resources and tailor communication for diverse audiences.
- Professional interaction with clients and external stakeholders.
- Experience organizing and coordinating the work of others.
- Ability to multi-task and manage several complex projects and client initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong focus on long-term goals and previous project/task management experience.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience in quantitative program evaluation is highly desirable.
- Time management skills and ability to deliver services on multiple projects concurrently.
Pay
The anticipated salary range for candidates is $80,000/year in our lowest geographic market to up to $110,000/year in our highest geographic market. The final pay offered will depend on factors such as experience, education, and market location. Candidates are typically not hired near the top of the range. Compensation decisions are based on Sellers Dorsey’s Total Compensation Policies & Guidelines.
