About the role

The University of Maryland, Baltimore, (UMB), Department of Human Resources is seeking a Learning and Employee Development, Senior Consultant to design and deliver innovative learning solutions for supervisors, managers, and staff. This role will support the growth and retention of talent at UMB by enhancing employee and leadership competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs that enhance the competencies of employees at all levels to align with the university's strategic efforts.
  • Develop and prepare training materials including presentations, instructor guides, participant guides, job aids, and learning activities based on adult learning principles.
  • Utilize blended learning platforms and learning technologies to enhance the learner experience and application of learning.
  • Oversee the design and preparation of training materials, develop instructional content, and determine training methodology.
  • Conduct organizational assessments, consulting/coaching, and develop action plans to address specific learning needs aligned with Human Resource planning and organizational strategic efforts.
  • Consult with campus leadership, managers, and supervisors regarding departmental competencies and performance issues, change management, and process improvement.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with departmental personnel, including management, to plan training sessions.
  • Conduct assessments and develop action plans to address issues specific to meeting individual, departmental, and divisional needs consistent with Human Resource planning and organizational strategic efforts.
  • Determine instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
  • Provide consultation/coaching for individuals, groups, or teams.
  • Employ technology to deliver workshops and materials including the delivery of in-person and eLearning environments.
  • Develop, revise and implement custom and standard training curriculum to enhance the competence of employees at all levels for alignment with strategic efforts of the University.
  • Ensure learning materials are based on adult learning development theories.
  • Support the facilitation of career development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Adult Learning, Human Resource Development, Organizational Development, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of progressive professional work experience in program development, instructional design, or training and development.

Skills

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources;
  • Principles and methods for curriculum and instructional design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects;
  • Program development, planning, and administration principles and practices;
  • Research methods;
  • Troubleshooting and solving complex program issues;
  • Adult learning principles.
