Boston Dynamics Consulting helps make remarkably capable robots commonplace in the physical world. As a Senior Consultant – Electromechanical Engineering, you will drive the growth of our core business and products by working directly with customers and internal teams to develop engineered solutions that enable Fortune 500 and high-value clients to maximize the potential of our robotics products for their automation and data needs.

About the role

You will build in-depth knowledge of our robotics and software solutions, think strategically, and define clear requirements for electromechanical systems and software solutions that meet customer needs. You will also contribute insights and support back to our core platforms and architectures. This role involves working directly with external clients and project leadership on paid engagements to develop and deliver electromechanical systems, primarily for payloads and systems built on our core physical platforms.

Experience in customizing core platforms, application development, sensor/payload configuration, mechanical or electrical systems, or other complex systems development—along with comfort in rapid prototyping environments—is essential. You will synthesize insights from customers, consulting leaders, product teams, and external experts to deliver systems and designs that unlock robotics capabilities in customer environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Directors and Software Leaders to develop and deliver custom electromechanical solutions that integrate with our core robot and fleet management products, accelerating the adoption of robotics and intelligent systems in dynamic environments.
  • Act as an external-facing technical representative, leveraging deep product knowledge to translate customer insights into actionable technical solutions and custom applications.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to support the development and implementation of payloads or mechanical physical systems that scale across autonomous systems.
  • Drive resolution of complex, high-risk technical challenges in projects spanning perception systems, controls systems, safety systems, advanced compute, and hardware/software integration.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations and technical documentation summarizing key findings and deliverables.
  • Assist in facilitating technical requirements and sprint planning sessions.
  • Move fast but intentionally to introduce new technology tools that guide investments in core robotics, software capabilities, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Stay informed on industry developments and share insights with relevant stakeholders.

Core Competencies

  • Execution: Owns delivery of impactful electrical and mechanical solutions and technical planning. Ensures alignment across complex interdependent systems. Analyzes and prioritizes development to achieve results efficiently, even under challenging circumstances.
  • Collaboration: Cultivates high-trust relationships with senior technical leaders and executives. Builds consensus across diverse perspectives and functions to advance client projects while creating a feedback loop to core products.
  • Innovation: Synthesizes trends, theory, and practice to deliver robust solutions that help clients achieve positive impact from deploying robots in complex, real-world scenarios.
  • Adaptability: Adapts and pivots in real time to meet shifting demands, moving forward productively and optimistically under conditions of change and ambiguity.

Requirements

  • Expertise in electromechanical system development and engineering platforms, as well as physical AI systems.
  • Knowledge or experience in robotics (especially core platforms), embedded systems, perception systems, or related fields.
  • Strong grasp of hardware/software trade-offs and cross-disciplinary systems thinking.
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics, physical systems software engineering, or embedded systems development.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment preferred.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping environments.
