Senior Construction Inspector- Street Transportation Department

About the role

The Street Transportation Department, Design and Construction Management Division is seeking to fill multiple Senior Construction Inspector positions. The Essential Functions associated with the Senior Construction Inspector include monitoring and performing inspections associated with Capital Improvement Projects including traffic signals, streets, alleys, water and sewer lines, irrigation facilities and storm drain installation, as well as permitted construction within the public right-of-way for compliance with standard MAG details, City of Phoenix Supplemental details to MAG, project specifications, and approved plans.

Responsibilities

• Keeping accurate daily reports as records for reference when documenting construction project progress.
• Verifying and using mathematical calculations to determine quantities for payment purposes.
• Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications for construction inspection purposes.
• Scheduling for testing of materials.
• Monitoring job safety conditions and traffic control.
• Reviewing plans and project specifications for constructability.
• Identifying potential conflicts.
• Making independent decisions in accordance with construction plans, specifications, City policies and procedures.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Knowledge of: - The principals and techniques of civil engineering, including materials testing, surveying and plan review. - MAG and City Supplemental Specifications, City policies and procedures.
• Ability to: - Perform mathematical calculations requiring the application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. - Produce well-organized written documents with proper English sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Three years of experience in construction related activities.
• One year of experience in the inspection of public works construction projects.
• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Working Condition Requirements

• Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
• Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
• Walking for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with/in: - Retrofitting Curb Ramps to meet American with Disabilities Act requirements. - Various asphalt surface treatments and methods associated with Micro-seal, Slurry Seal, Crack Seal, and asphalt placement. - Using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word). - Various concrete placements. - Experience in overhead and underground utilities. - Temporary traffic control and barricades. - Generating daily, weekly, monthly reports and progress payments. - Surveying or Materials field. - Plan review for constructability of civil construction projects.
