Senior Construction Inspector

About the role

Construction Inspectors spend the majority of their time working on projects performing construction related inspection requiring specific certifications and/or experience. They perform daily inspections of construction projects, monitoring quality and adherence to building code requirements, construction drawings and project specifications. They inspect various aspects of construction including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, etc., using visual/physical inspection and field testing to verify conformance with plans and specifications. They prepare inspection reports and provide written documentation of observations and testing of materials. They communicate findings to engineers or project managers and collaborate with the project team on potential issues.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures to determine if work is done according to contract specifications.
• Reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
• Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
• Prepares inspection reports and documents nonconformance.
• Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submission to the Project Manager.
• Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the Project Manager.
• May interact with clients and other site personnel to provide input on appropriate resolution of findings.
• May assist Project Manager in developing the scope for testing and inspection services.
• Collaborates with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers on pre-dispatch activities.
• Maintains equipment operation and calibration.
• Leads, provides direction, and coordinates activities of lower-level inspectors.
• Performs advanced fieldwork and assists with project management.
• Drives a vehicle such as a Ford F-150 or equivalent.
• Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
• Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in construction inspection.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
• At least four or more certifications in the following areas:
• NICET Level III certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
• NICET Level III certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
• ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding).
• ICC Master of Special Inspection.
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
• American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level III certification (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)).

Pay

Maximum Salary: $57.00 per hour
Minimum Salary: $36.75 per hour
