Senior Construction Inspector
Nature of Work
The Senior Construction Inspector works under general direction and is responsible for administering CIP maintenance contracts, inspecting public and private construction projects, performing utility locates, managing citywide right-of-way and traffic control permits, and conducting related inspections.
Responsible for the Engineering Department projects, serving as a liaison to utility companies, explaining and enforcing City policies, procedures, and specifications; and performing other technical work, including the documentation of engineering plans, drafting, and production of charts, maps and drawings.
Provides project management and engineering support services for the City’s capital maintenance projects. Employees will coordinate the completion of maintenance projects to ensure conformance with City standards and specifications, and work within City rights-of-way.

- Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of construction project administration, inspection, and engineering.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of streets and utilities, such as water, sewer, irrigation, and storm sewer projects.
- Knowledge of utility locating equipment.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, drafting techniques, and drafting procedures.
- Knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra.
- Knowledge of roadway and utilities construction standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of surveying methods and equipment including GPS.
- Knowledge of trench shoring and safety and confined space entry.
- Knowledge of MUTCD, EPA, and NPDES standards and requirements.
- Skill in reading and interpretation of engineering plans, construction drawings, maps, and blueprints.
- Skill in the use of AutoCAD and civil engineering drafting standards.
- Skill in the use of ESRI, MT Exec, PAVER, Web TMS, Caselle, Community Core, Bidnet, and GIS software.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
- Associate degree in a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- 5 years of work experience in civil engineering, construction, or other closely related fields.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in public/municipal sector.
- American Concrete Institute certifications.
- Previous materials testing experience.
- MS4 compliance & enforcement certification.
