About the role

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking an estimator to work with our Atlanta team, providing estimating, change management, and conformance check services on major construction projects for a well-known client. On-site presence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide estimate and cost planning, including producing and presenting the final cost plan.
  • Estimate at conceptual, programming, and detailed levels.
  • Perform accurate quantity surveys for all types of construction systems and materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed cost estimates for all project types.
  • Assist in providing feasibility studies and applying parametric benchmark cost data.
  • Provide reasoned and rational cost advice on elements of cost estimating and planning.
  • Understand local market rates and project nuances.
  • Contribute to the benchmark library and advise on the accuracy of cost advice and estimates from external parties.
  • Provide benchmarking studies, analysis of cost data, and presentation of data in reports.
  • Undertake cost assurance of third-party estimates, report writing, and presentation.
  • Perform all aspects of procurement, including managing the pre-qualification stage, producing bid lists, bid analysis, bid reports, and compiling contractual documents.
  • Participate in post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Review proposed change documents and pricing as assigned.
  • Provide project document constructability reviews.
  • Attend meetings and make site visits with project/construction management as appropriate.
  • Manage cost checks and carry out valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate cost checking and valuation processes.
  • Produce monthly cost reports and present them to clients.
  • Provide input into value engineering and options analysis.
  • Maintain liaison with clients and other consultants at all project stages.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new business with existing clients and report such opportunities to the appropriate line manager.
  • Identify improvements for cost estimating procedures, templates, and products, and refer ideas to the appropriate line manager.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and actively encourage others to comply with safety rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction from a four-year college or university, or related equivalent experience.
  • Three (3) years of significant quantity survey and pricing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience as a project or field engineer is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a lead estimator on large-scale and complex construction projects.
  • Experience in all elements of estimating construction projects, including Civil, Structural, Architectural, and MEP elements.
  • US construction experience is required.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale and complex projects.
  • Exemplary communication skills—both written and oral.
  • Must be a “self-starter,” goal/results-oriented leader, and team player.
  • Competency using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, CostX, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience preparing Bid Analysis Sheets, Change Control Forms, and using Cost Estimating and Take-off Software.
