Senior Constructability Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We’re the people who keep the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Our goal is to find the candidate who has well-developed data center technical knowledge coupled with practical construction and commissioning experience to help drive standards in this essential part of our delivery process. If you have experience working within a broad design and construction infrastructure environment, you could be the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Embed with regional Construction, Field Engineering, and project teams to resolve constructability issues during active builds
- Bring field and trade-level judgment to the design-to-construction handoff; identify buildability and installation risk before and during execution
- Diagnose and resolve complex on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil issues—separating root cause from symptom
- Coordinate across trades and partners (GC, EC, commissioning) to resolve issues in the owning team’s interest
- Feed field-proven lessons back to design and standards owners so fixes propagate beyond the single site
- Serve as the hands-on resource project teams pull in for high-consequence delivery issues
- 25%+ regional travel, sometimes unplanned
A day in the life
As a Senior Constructability Engineer you are forward-deployed into constructability problems rather than reviewing them from a distance. You embed alongside the teams that own the work—bringing domain judgment, resolving the issue jointly, and handing the solution back to the owning team. You are not a review gate and you do not accumulate ownership; you go where the business consequence is highest. You are on site and in trailers, walking installations, in OAC and coordination meetings, troubleshooting live delivery issues alongside the crews and construction managers. Problems reach you from your own team and from partner teams, and you actively seek out buildability risks before they surface in the field. Resolution draws on a genuine understanding of how things get built, so the solution is robust, installable, and in the best interest of the AWS business.
