Responsibilities

  • Manage vendors and manufacturers to assess new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs, establish fiber testing standards, and develop scalable implementation strategies for network-wide deployment.
  • Automate fiber test plans and qualify fiber connectivity designs.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments and structured cabling systems.
  • Focus on ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture and systems development initiatives, propose and deliver projects that have a significant business and/or customer impact.
  • Drive discussions with customers and peers, and being a key influencer in team strategy.
  • Partner with internal network engineering and site operations teams to align physical design with logical network architecture.
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
  • Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational requirements.
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical network components across global sites.
  • Provide feedback to design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field - or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience on fiber plant design and network design OR 10+ years of experience in structured cabling design, deployment, and maintenance for large-scale data centers
  • 5+ years of experience with fiber plant design and IEEE standards
  • 2+ years of experience working with optical protocols and technologies
  • Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI and other relevant structured cabling guidelines
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors on large-scale projects
  • Strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management
