Senior Communications Specialist
About the role
Caterpillar has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Communications Specialist to join the Cat Digital division. In this role, you will serve as the primary communications partner for the AI & Analytics, Digital Applications, and Digital Platforms teams, helping translate complex technology initiatives into compelling narratives that resonate across the enterprise and beyond.
Responsibilities
This position requires someone who can quickly understand technical concepts, connect business strategy to technology outcomes, and create impactful communications that elevate the work of software engineering teams and executive leaders.
- Develop compelling narratives that connect digital initiatives to business outcomes and enterprise strategy.
- Modernize communication formats, styles, and delivery methods to increase engagement and effectiveness.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling, and accessible stories for a broad range of audiences.
- Create executive presentations, talking points, speeches, leadership messaging, and strategic communication materials.
- Develop content that highlights innovation, engineering achievements, and digital transformation initiatives across Cat Digital.
Internal Communications
- Create, manage, and deploy internal communications across a variety of channels, including employee newsletters, Viva Engage, SharePoint, leadership messages, presentations, and organizational updates.
- Partner with stakeholders across Cat Digital and the enterprise to identify and amplify stories that support organizational priorities.
- Support communications planning and change management activities associated with new technologies, digital initiatives, and organizational priorities.
- Ensure communications align with business objectives and reinforce Caterpillar's digital strategy.
External Communications
- Develop external communications in partnership with Caterpillar's media and communications teams, including press releases, executive talking points, media statements, conference and panel materials, and thought leadership content.
- Support executive visibility initiatives and help position Cat Digital leaders as industry voices on topics related to technology, AI, and digital transformation.
- Manage communications review and approval processes with Legal, Brand, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Executive Partnership & Communications Advisory
- Serve as the communications advisor for three senior leaders responsible for leading the AI & Analytics, Digital Applications, and Digital Platforms teams in Caterpillar's Cat Digital division.
- Develop communication strategies that support executive priorities and organizational objectives.
- Provide counsel on messaging, communication risks, stakeholder considerations, and organizational impact.
- Manage communication priorities, workflows, timelines, and deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
Requirements
- Presentation development and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information and create a clear, compelling narrative.
- Experience using tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Express, or similar platforms to support storytelling and executive communications.
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling principles and how to effectively communicate ideas through presentations and digital content.
- Technology curiosity and business acumen, with the ability to quickly learn and understand technical concepts related to software engineering, analytics, artificial intelligence, applications, digital platforms, and emerging technologies.
- Executive presence and the ability to confidently support senior leaders.
- Strong judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Five or more years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Executive Communications, or a related field.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proven ability to translate highly technical concepts into meaningful business narratives for non-technical audiences.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $112,710.00 - $169,060.00. Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience.
Schedule
Relocation assistance is available for those who qualify. Travel up to 25% is required. The preferred location is Dallas, TX, with additional consideration given to Peoria, IL or Chicago, IL.
