Senior Commissioning Manager

This role offers the opportunity to lead commissioning activities for large-scale renewable energy projects that support the transition to a cleaner energy future. You will oversee commissioning strategies, quality processes, safety standards, and technical execution across complex utility-scale projects. Working remotely with regular project site visits, you will collaborate with construction teams, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders.

About the role

The Senior Commissioning Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of commissioning programs for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The role requires strong coordination, technical oversight, and stakeholder management to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective commissioning programs, including planning activities, commissioning trackers, testing procedures, and reporting processes.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings, review project agreements, technical documentation, schedules, drawings, and specifications to define commissioning requirements.
• Coordinate commissioning activities with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, project stakeholders, and regulatory organizations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for commissioning-related questions and provide technical guidance throughout project execution.
• Oversee commissioning personnel, assignments, and project-based activities to ensure alignment with project goals.
• Review contractor documentation, test reports, and deliverables to confirm compliance with project requirements.
• Support quality control efforts by verifying installations, testing procedures, equipment calibration, and adherence to industry standards.
• Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, safety regulations, manufacturer requirements, and renewable energy industry standards.
• Analyze inspection and testing data to identify improvement opportunities, risks, and corrective actions.
• Promote a strong safety culture by supporting compliance with safety procedures and proactively addressing potential hazards.
• Maintain lessons learned documentation and contribute to process improvements across commissioning operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; additional technical education or relevant certifications are a plus.
• 5-7 years of related experience in commissioning, construction management, renewable energy, or similar technical fields.
• Proven experience managing commissioning activities for large utility-scale projects, with renewable energy experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy systems, including utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind projects, substations, and SCADA systems.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, contracts, and project documentation.
• Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, and construction risk management practices.
• Experience leading personnel, coordinating cross-functional teams, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying risks and improving processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, suppliers, project teams, and leadership.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and OneNote.
• Understanding of testing equipment, calibration procedures, and commissioning best practices.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
