About the role
The Commissioning (Cx) Engineer - Level 4 plays a key role in supporting successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. This individual will provide technical expertise, oversight, and technical management to ensure that the performance of buildings, systems, and equipment conform to design specifications. This person will also be engaged in marketing activities to support business development efforts, and management of other staff.
Responsibilities
- Field Task Execution
- Conducts building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
- Primarily executes Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) functional tests, including point verification and sequence tests.
- Will be expected to create and execute/witness other systems tests such as electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, or plumbing systems.
- Actively participates in construction meetings.
- Directs commissioning meetings, recording action items and distributing these to all key stakeholders.
- Performs construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project documents.
- Able to perform Test & Balance (TAB) measurements, primarily in retro-commissioning applications.
- May include execution and management of new construction TAB projects, provided the proper certifications are held.
- Reporting
- Writes and assembles technical reports for commissioning and re/retro-commissioning projects.
- Assists other department staff in calculating building energy use and savings.
- Project Management
- Develops a project plan, requests and secures resources, and keeps the project on track for on-time delivery.
- Ensures that all project work is properly set-up, documented, and reported.
- Reviews MEP submittals for conformance to design documents and owner's best interests.
- Manages financial aspects of assigned projects, including managing budgets, invoicing, and forecasting projects.
- Manages Performance Group personnel working on their project(s).
- Trains less experienced staff in all aspects of commissioning and re/retro-commissioning tasks.
- Business Development
- Communicates and builds internal and external relationships to ensure marketing strategy and input is aggressive, accurate, persuasive, and timely.
- Supports new business development opportunities, including properly defined, scoped, and priced.
- Aids in the development of letter proposals, including compiling technical and non-technical data, editing, printing, assembling, and submitting proposal.
- Aids in the preparation of proposals and interviews.
- Attends conferences and trade shows, networking and identifying new leads and prospects.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
- 10+ years of direct HVAC, building operations, or construction fields.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel.
- Represent the company in a professional manner.
- Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
- Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application.
- Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.
Preferred
- Working experience with Revit.

- Salary Range: $115,000 - $144,000 annually.
