We are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Underwriter to join a contract opportunity in Columbia, South Carolina. In this role, you will partner closely with credit leadership to evaluate complex commercial lending relationships, develop thoughtful credit recommendations, and support sound portfolio management. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, communicating directly with borrowers, and balancing analytical depth with practical business judgment. Responsibilities: • Partner with credit leadership to oversee complex commercial borrowing relationships and help maintain a well-managed loan portfolio. • Evaluate borrower financial performance, repayment sources, collateral quality, and overall risk to support informed underwriting decisions. • Develop and revise credit presentations, periodic reviews, amendment requests, and other documentation tied to commercial lending activity. • Serve as a direct point of contact for borrowers regarding financial results, financing requests, deal terms, and other credit-related matters. • Assist with construction lending activities by supporting deal structure, reviewing disbursement requests, tracking project progress, and analyzing related risk factors. • Contribute to the ongoing administration of commercial credits by monitoring existing relationships and identifying issues that may affect loan performance. • Provide additional support across the Credit Administration function when priorities shift or team needs arise. • Proven background in commercial credit analysis and underwriting for business lending relationships. • Strong ability to interpret financial statements, assess cash flow trends, evaluate collateral, and determine repayment capacity. • Experience preparing complete commercial loan packages, written recommendations, and supporting credit documentation. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with borrowers and internal stakeholders. • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision while applying sound judgment to complex credit matters. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities effectively. • Familiarity with commercial collections, credit applications, and broader commercial credit administration processes. • Exposure to construction lending and knowledge of government-backed lending programs such as B& I, 7(a), or 504 is preferred.
