Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity in Detroit, Michigan for a professional who will report to the Supply Chain Director and focus on local sourcing strategies, procurement process optimization, service request intake, and capital project sourcing to enable safe, reliable, and competitive operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop contracting strategies to establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers, ensuring services, commercial terms, and strategy optimization.
- Lead process improvement activities for assigned material categories, identifying repetitive, manual, or inefficient procurement activities that can be standardized, simplified, or automated.
- Lead the bid package process from development through purchase order execution, aligning stakeholder and Supply Chain requirements, scope of work, assumptions, and clarifications.
- Participate in vendor pre-bid meetings and site walks, leading the commercial aspects and setting expectations outlined in the request for proposal.
- Lead local sourcing support for capital project-related materials and services, including project-specific supplier identification, bid development, bid evaluation, award recommendation, and purchase order execution.
- Partner with Project Management, Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Accounting to support procurement planning for capital projects, including sourcing timelines, budget alignment, vendor readiness, and commercial risk identification.
- Support routine service requests to ensure appropriate scope definition, supplier path, contract coverage, and safety qualifications prior to sourcing execution.
- Actively seek and identify opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction; develop and execute cost savings and strategic sourcing projects while ensuring business continuity and high supplier performance.
- Manage assigned business unit(s) to optimize the supply base and deliver financial benefit; collaborate with and support category management regarding key supplier initiatives.
- Collaborate with assigned business unit(s) to assess all requirements and develop sourcing and contracting strategies for goods and services; support the development, management, and execution of commercial initiatives and strategies.
- Facilitate issue resolution related to supplier performance, developing awareness of associated operating risks, and qualifying contractors to ensure appropriate criteria are adequately addressed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure service, commercial terms, and optimal leverage; develop and track KPIs for measuring performance of key suppliers.
- Utilize Supply Chain tools, templates, and systems as prescribed by the Supply Chain function; collaborate with Supply Chain peers to drive continuous improvement, alignment, and best-in-class process optimization.
- Comprehend and interpret commercial, financial, and business data for opportunities and risk; minimize risk in Supply Chain processes to support operating components’ service requirements.
- Ensure sourcing activities are properly aligned with the expectations of Supply Chain organizations and stakeholder groups, educating and supporting the deployment of best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Four (4) or more years of Supply Chain or relevant business experience.
- Experience with SAP, Ariba, Tableau, M365, and TRACK.
