Senior COBOL Mainframe Developer

About the role

A motivated and technically strong Senior Mainframe COBOL Developer is needed to support critical payment applications, contribute to design and development activities, and drive improvements aligned with modern engineering practices, including Agile delivery and emerging AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL, IMS DB/DC
• Support mission-critical payment applications for global banking clients
• Work closely with SMEs and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Manage and track team work using JIRA
• Support problem resolution and root cause analysis
• Assist in performance tuning and capacity improvement initiatives
• Contribute to documentation, standards, and governance practices
• Explore and support adoption of Agentic AI capabilities (e.g., automation, intelligent code analysis, AI-assisted development)

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Mainframe application development
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL, and IMS
• Strong experience in:
  • COBOL (Mainframe development)
  • JCL (Job Control Language)
  • CICS
  • IMS DB / IMS DC
• Familiarity with batch and online transaction processing systems
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Hands-on experience with JIRA for workflow and tracking
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of Agentic AI / AI-assisted development tools

Skills

• Experience in banking and payments domain (good to have)
• Knowledge of SWIFT, ACH, ISO 20022, or card payment processing (good to have)
• Experience with DB2 and VSAM (good to have)
• Familiarity with IBM z/OS utilities (good to have)
• Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices in a mainframe environment (good to have)
• Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools (good to have)
