About the role
The Senior Coatings & Corrosion Consultant role at Structural Integrity Associates (SIA) combines technical execution, client engagement, and business development. This high-visibility, growth-oriented role involves leading and supporting coating and linings projects, developing technical scopes of work, and contributing to business development activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and support coating and linings projects for nuclear plant systems involving coating selection, qualification, performance assessment, and application for nuclear and industrial applications
- Lead or support commercial grade dedication (CGD) of coatings and lining systems, including identification of critical characteristics, development of dedication plans, supplier evaluation, and ensuring compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality assurance requirements
- Develop technical scopes of work, specifications, and inspection plans
- Evaluate coating degradation, failure mechanisms, and life extension strategies
- Support field activities including contractor oversight and QA
- Interface with clients to identify needs and develop follow-on work
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, developing proposals and engaging with clients
- Collaborate internally to cross-sell SI offerings, bundle services, and expand scope
- Author and review technical reports, test plans, and client deliverables
- Engage in client consulting, troubleshooting, and field application support
Required Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–15+ years in coatings, corrosion, linings, or asset integrity
- Direct experience supporting commercial grade dedication (CGD) of materials or components and working within 10 CFR 50 Appendix B nuclear quality assurance programs
- Experience in specification, inspection, assessment, or rehabilitation
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- Able to support business development activities
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Able to travel (~15–30%) to support client projects, testing, and business development
- Able to obtain Nuclear Unescorted Access Authorization (UAA) as required
Desired Skills/Qualifications
- More than 10 years of experience in the Nuclear Industry or similar field
- Experience with coatings and polymers under extreme service environments (radiation, high temperature, corrosive media)
- Direct experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Familiarity with Nuclear Industry materials challenges (e.g., degradation, life extension, advanced reactor applications)
- Familiarity with standards and testing protocols for nuclear and industrial coatings, such as ASTM (including Committee D33), AMPP/NACE, SSPC surface preparation standards, AWWA coating standards, and applicable nuclear requirements (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, EPRI guidance, LR/SLR activities)
- Familiarity with internal linings, tanks, buried piping, or AWWA systems
- AMPP/NACE CIP certification
- Experience managing coating contractors in industrial field settings
- Knowledge of corrosion mitigation and cathodic protection integration
- Polymer/materials science background
Pay Range
The expected salary range for this role in Denver, CO is $117,090 to $158,840 annually. Exact pay will be commensurate with experience.
