Senior CNC Programmer
About the Role
At Boom Supersonic, we're building Superpower — a 42-megawatt industrial gas turbine that demands some of the most precise CNC programming work in the industry. Our first Superpower prototype is being assembled now and scheduled for first fire this year. The production facility you’ll work in is being built in parallel — so that when the prototype proves out, we're ready to build the first production units without losing a beat.
This is a CAM-depth role. You'll work primarily in Hypermill, programming 5-axis simultaneous, mill-turn, and complex 3+2 operations on Superpower components. You'll make deliberate toolpath decisions, verify your work in simulation with rigor, and produce setup documentation that a machinist can run without calling you. You'll work closely with the Applications Engineer as a collaborator, not just an executor. When the toolpath won't deliver what the process spec intends, you'll propose solutions. When a machinist reports issues, you'll understand why.
We're building the programming function at Boom, which means you'll have real input into how it works — naming conventions, revision control, template structure, and tooling libraries. Responsibilities
- CAM programming in Hypermill for Superpower IGT components — 5-axis simultaneous, mill-turn, and 3+2 operations.
- Simulation verification — systematic review before any program reaches the machine.
- Setup documentation — complete enough that someone else can run the job without assistance.
- Program revision control — ensuring the machine always has the correct version.
- Collaborate with the Applications Engineer to refine toolpaths and shape the process spec over time.
Requirements
- CNC programming experience with demonstrated CAM system depth — not just button familiarity.
- Hypermill experience is a strong differentiator; Mastercam, ESPRIT, or NX CAM experience is transferable.
- 5-axis simultaneous programming experience — or strong reasoning ability about 5-axis geometry for early-career candidates.
- Ability to read G-code output and identify post issues without running the machine.
- Documentation discipline — creating setup sheets that machinists can run independently.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations (ITAR/EAR compliance).
Pay
The base hourly range for this position is $45/hr - $55/hr. Actual rate will vary based on factors including location, experience, and performance.
