About the role
Relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with advanced coordination and control, this position involves building, testing, repairing, and modifying production mechanical and electronic components and instruments using engineering drawings and test procedures.
Responsibilities
- Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical/electro-mechanical and electronic components or assemblies for industrial equipment, machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
- Installs, troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, or performs routine/preventive maintenance on products, instruments, or equipment.
- Coordinates and participates in final assembly of units or systems, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling, tubing, power sources, and instruments.
- Assembles standard components and assemblies as required.
- Activates controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power.
- Reviews project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, and possible solutions (e.g., part redesign, material substitution, or rearrangement of parts).
- Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to evaluate performance, reliability, or compliance with development, standardization, quality control, or contract requirements.
- Analyzes test results against design or rated specifications and corrects equipment through modification, rebuild, or adjustment.
- Records test procedures, results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.
- Provides technical leadership to lower-level technicians, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility personnel as needed.
Requirements
- Vocational or Technical Certificate, or Associate’s Degree in a related or specialized field; minimum of 15 years of experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Knowledge of computer software, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and data collection/analysis tools like LabView.
- Experience with manufacturing test, development, or diagnostic equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, voltmeters, spectrum analyzers).
- Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, or Kaizen.
- U.S. Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain a government security clearance.
- Ability to travel domestically/internationally approximately 10%.
