Key Responsibilities
- Planning and executing maintenance activities, upgrades, and migrations on our cloud infrastructure to keep our platforms secure, highly available, and aligned with best practices.
- Coordinating, guiding, and mentoring the Cloud Operations Specialist(s) by providing technical direction, establishing repeatable processes/runbooks, and ensuring efficient support and maintenance operations, helping the team scale as additional projects and customers are added in the future.
- Participating in support and request fulfillment related to cloud infrastructure, with a focus on escalation handling, complex troubleshooting, and systemic improvements to reduce recurring issues.
- Working closely with cloud architects and engineers to identify, implement, and operationalize optimal cloud-based solutions for our customers, including assisting with engineering efforts where appropriate (e.g. automation, infrastructure improvements, and reliability enhancements).
- Performing code deployments, hotfixes, and major releases in collaboration with the operations and development teams, working to improve reliability and repeatability.
- Responding to production incidents and outages, providing clear, proactive communication while they are occurring and effective reporting after resolution, contributing to root-cause analysis and follow-up remediation.
- Following applicable security guidelines and best practices to perform effective ongoing management of cloud environments.
- Optimizing observability frameworks (e.g. Datadog, Sentry) to drive automation of detection, alerting, and remediation workflows.
- Educating other teams on cloud-based solutions and providing associated training as required.
- Employing exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues before they snowball into more significant problems.
- Helping to build highly available web services in the cloud.
- Introducing innovative ideas and technologies so that we can stay on the cutting edge.
- Communicating technical information to both developers and business stakeholders.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship is required. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- 4 years of experience in IT, with at least 2 years of hands-on AWS experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (additional 2 years of relevant experience can be substituted for a degree).
- Flexibility to work outside business hours for code deployments and maintenance activities as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or IT.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate and/or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate certifications.
- 2+ years of experience with systems administration and support in AWS.
- 2+ years of experience providing enterprise Linux-based systems administration.
- 2+ years of experience in a SaaS environment.
- 1+ year of experience with Terraform or CloudFormation, Elastic Kubernetes Service, Docker, and GitHub.
- 1+ year of experience with Incident Management and Response.
- 1+ year of experience with Jira.
