Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (up to $200k)

About the role

Restate builds a lightweight runtime that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into durable processes — so engineering teams can focus on business logic rather than failure mechanics. The runtime ships as a single Rust binary with a custom storage layer, low-latency orchestration, and an analytics engine for observability, and it already runs critical financial workflows for Fortune 500 enterprises and Tier 1 banks. This role spans all four product pillars: OSS, on-prem deployments, multi-tenant SaaS (Restate Cloud), and BYOC (bring-your-own-cloud).

Responsibilities

• Own significant parts of the cloud infrastructure end-to-end.
• Extend the managed multi-tenant offering across infrastructure, control plane, networking, storage, and observability of Restate workloads.
• Design the infrastructure that runs inside customer cloud accounts for BYOC and on-prem installations.
• Build the reliability and observability layer across the fleet — SLOs, metrics, traces, logs, alerting, runbooks, and the automation that lets the product scale across deployment methods.
• Join the cloud on-call rotation, where a US-based hire materially improves the team's timezone coverage.

Requirements

• You have a strong cloud infrastructure background with deep working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider's architecture, and you've operated production SaaS or platform infrastructure before.
• You've designed and run large-scale Kubernetes-based stateful workloads, balancing continuous delivery with safety in multi-tenant environments.
• You're fluent in a systems language (Rust, Go, or C++) and are willing to learn Rust on the job if you don't already have it.
• You take ownership end-to-end from design through production operations, and you thrive in early-stage startup ambiguity.
• You have an appreciation for operating in compliance-sensitive environments — Restate's customer base includes regulated financial institutions.
• (Bonus) Kubernetes operator development, or hands-on IaC depth in Cluster API, Crossplane, or Terraform.
