Senior Clinical Coder

Main duties of the job:

• Interpreting case notes to extract relevant clinical information
• Applying national clinical coding standards with consistency and accuracy
• Using our electronic patient record and coding software
• Liaising with clinical staff to clarify documentation where necessary
• Participating in regular audit and feedback processes to maintain quality

Qualifications

Essential criteria:

• Detailed knowledge of national coding rules and conventions
• In depth knowledge of OPCS4 and ICD10
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology
• A working knowledge and understanding of local clinical coding policies and their application
• Knowledge of Clinical Coding audit processes
• A working knowledge and understanding of local clinical coding policies and their application
• Knowledge of Department of Health initiatives
• Understanding of Health and Safety requirements
• Knowledge of Trust policies and procedures
• Understanding of the NHS recent reforms: Caldecott Guardians, Freedom of Information act, Data Protection act
• Experience in working in major teaching NHS Foundation Trust
• Experience in Health Informatics Qualification
• Knowledge of referencing and reference writing
