About the Role
Investigate, evaluate, provide defense if appropriate, negotiate, and resolve assigned property damage and bodily injury claims reported under affiliated Companies' insurance contracts, in accordance with those contracts and applicable law, within documented authority.
Responsibilities
- Claim Investigation: Investigate assigned claims, including identifying necessary information and documents, directing independent adjusters, and reviewing public and other records. Contact insureds, claimants, and others regarding claim evaluation, processes, and resolution alternatives. Comply with claims handling laws and regulations. At higher levels, engage defense counsel and monitor defense of insureds or work directly with internal legal counsel.
- Coverage Analysis: Identify, evaluate, and analyze rights and obligations under insurance contracts applicable to assigned claims. Comply with jurisdictional laws and coordinate with the Legal Department on coverage and compliance issues.
- Loss Assessment: Analyze and estimate liability and loss for assigned claims. Identify potential fraud and report it to the Special Investigation Unit. Use decision theory principles to evaluate claim settlement scenarios.
- Claim Reserving and Settlement: Establish and modify case reserves reflecting available claim information. Review and approve invoices for allocated loss adjustment expenses. Maintain and review claim diaries. Negotiate and resolve claims within established authority or recommend resolutions to management.
- Communication and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of communications with insureds, claimants, and third parties. Update claim files with required electronic and other records. Provide claim information to management and others as needed.
- Licensing: Obtain and maintain all required licenses and certifications. Stay current with insurance and claim management principles through professional literature and conferences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Three or more years of related work experience.
Preferred Knowledge
- Interpretation and application of insurance contracts.
- Insurance claim procedures, loss evaluation methods, and claim resolution alternatives.
- Insurance-related courses such as AIC, CPCU.
