Senior Claim Examiner

Chubb is seeking a Senior Claim Examiner in the Employment Practices Liability group. This role investigates and settles litigated and higher severity non-litigated claims promptly, equitably, and within established best practices guidelines. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President of EPL Claims out of the Pittsburgh, PA office.

This is not a typical claims role. Employment Practices Liability exposes you to emerging workplace issues at the center of national and global media, such as the Me Too movement, racial injustice, and COVID-19. In this paperless environment, you will use analytical skills to resolve workplace claims, including discrimination, harassment, and other related matters. The work is collaborative, with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds, including law enforcement, human resources, claims, and legal disciplines.

About the role

Chubb will provide training in Employment Law, contracts, and claims handling. You will partner with defense counsel and insureds to resolve complex workplace-related claims.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a collaborative environment by raising new ideas and demonstrating teamwork, high motivation, and positive behavior to achieve goals.
• Complete accurate and timely coverage, liability, and damage investigations and evaluations on complex Employment Practices Liability insurance policies.
• Establish, document, and execute appropriate strategies to bring early and cost-effective resolution to assigned claims.
• Represent the company at meetings with management, business partners, and virtual mediations.
• Effectively utilize technology systems and tools to track and manage caseload efficiently.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external customers, including clients, underwriters, and agents.
• Demonstrate sound claim handling practices by achieving compliance in investigation, coverage, loss assessment, and case management.
• Assume training responsibilities for new claim examiners, including coaching and guidance.

Requirements

• BA/BS College Degree; JD preferred but not required.
• 2 to 4 years of work experience handling claims of comparable complexity or working in a legal position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and build relationships at all levels.
• Aptitude for evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting technical information.
• Sound decision-making skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• High level of initiative and leadership skills.

Additional Requirements

• An applicable resident or designated home state adjuster’s license is required. Chubb will provide up to 40 hours of paid, independent self-study time, materials, and up to 3 attempts or 3 months (whichever is sooner) to pass the exam.
• If you do not already have one, you will be required to obtain an applicable adjuster’s license and possibly additional state licensure.

Training

Chubb provides a combination of classroom and on-the-job training to prepare claim examiners for full responsibilities, including:

• Cultivating relationships with internal clients (e.g., underwriters).
• Analyzing initial claim reports.
• Understanding the legal system and effective investigation/documentation of findings.
• Determining coverage by understanding Chubb’s products.
• Interpreting and applying insurance contracts.
• Negotiating settlements.
