About the role
Tectonic is a multi-disciplined engineering firm with over 30 years of experience, known for delivering professional, quality services while maintaining integrity and value. We are uniquely positioned to offer special inspections and in-house laboratory material testing services. This role involves performing various special inspections for a highly respected firm in the New York City metro area.
Responsibilities
- Perform special inspections of buildings to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and referenced standards required by the NYC Construction Building Code.
- Conduct subsurface investigations, including soil borings, test pits, and soil percolation testing.
- Read and interpret related documents and drawings.
- Maintain special inspection records and prepare official field reports.
- Perform additional inspections and related duties as required.
Requirements
- Valid Professional Engineering License; ability to acquire a NY PE License within a reasonable period.
- BS Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Inspection experience, preferably in NYC.
- Ability to complete required OSHA training within a reasonable time period.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of building inspection codes and requirements (e.g., International Building Codes, ASTM Standards, TMS standards).
- Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, equipment, design concepts, and construction techniques.
- Ability to solve complex issues with limited direction.
- May require a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle for travel to job sites.

Pay
Tectonic’s goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably. The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $80.00 per hour, based on the candidate’s work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities.
