About the role
The City of Pomona is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to lead land development and infrastructure projects within the Public Works Engineering Division.
Responsibilities
- Aid in coordinating the organization, staffing, and operational activities for the assigned Engineering Division programs.
- Assist in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Engineering Division.
- Provide supervision for the assigned programs and activities; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
- Oversee and review the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, and bidding documents for public works projects.
- Review developer plans for conformance with the City standards, policies, and codes.
- Respond to and resolve difficult inquiries and complaints.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of civil engineering.
Requirements
- Education and Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Six years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering. Experience in land surveying is desirable.
- Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or must obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California. Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Land Surveyor in the State of California is desirable.

- Strong knowledge of land development, building plan check processes, and applicable regulations such as the Subdivision Map Act, ADA requirements, and stormwater mandates.
- Effective supervisory skills.
- Sound technical judgment.
- The ability to collaborate with developers, consultants, agencies, and the public.

- 4/10 work schedule (Fridays off)
- 6% education incentive pay for a Master’s degree or higher
- 80 hours of Executive Leave (Group C – PMMCEA) in addition to vacation time and sick leave
- Competitive salary with a 5% increase effective October 1, 2026
Pay
- Salary Scale Plan is composed of five steps.
- Merit step increases are based on meets standards performance, except step 4 and 5, which requires exceed standards performance.
Schedule
- Most employees including certain Police Department employees work a 4/10 work schedule.
- 24-hour operations personnel may be assigned to a 12-hour (12/80) schedule.
- City Hall Employees work Monday through Thursday, with City Hall being closed every Friday.
